Myrry’s Murderers
Across the remnants of the Eight Legion, Myrry’s Murderers are notorious for their appalling luck, made all the worst by their Visionary’s curse. Syr Myrry is a powerful prophet and seer, but his visions only show him the best possible outcome — leaving he and his claw vulnerable to ‘unexpected complications’.
Syr Myrry is currently obsessed by the possibility of resurrecting the Nighthaunter through the acquisition of the great and terrible artefact known as the Warp Siphon. One of his worst decisions was the decision to allow his team to freely pillage the spoils from their strangely one-sided victory against the Thousand Sons Warpcoven known as the Servants of Fate.
Ever since, the claw have been haunted by the souls they slew that night, sometimes to the point where they experience missing time. All too often they awake to find the walls of the cells covered in flowing hierographic script, mid-conversation suddenly switch to a detached scholarly perspective, or for a few seconds display an unnerving grasp of historical or occult minutiae. In addition, the claw’s plate refuses to keep to its midnight hue, returning to a rich cobalt every time it is repainted.
Kor Saleth, who holds the position of Fearmonger, is rumoured to have learned his trade as a poisoner from the Drukhari. When asked as to how he convinced one of them to part with this knowledge, Kor Saleth says that he merely subjected one of that noxiously arrogant and snobbish race to a whole month of listening to a Nostraman gang drill song on repeat. To make the torment all the more effective, he also insisted on only talking to them in a terribly mangled and mispronounced elder dialect.
Out of the claw, Vol Susenar, Skin Thief and Sir Myrry’s self-appointed second in command is the worst affected by the theft of the Servants of Fate’s plate, probably because he looted that belonging to the Warpcoven’s leader, Omicron Ra and now he can’t take it off. The disquiet that Vol Susenar feels now that his body is no longer his own has stoked his sadism to new heights. He welcomes anything that can distract him from his plight.
Val Zarsaz, the claw’s Screecher, is its second-least popular member. This is due to his habit of loudly singing songs from his childhood at the slightest opportunity. His other tendency of undercutting the solemnity of the Claw’s work through repeatedly quoting his favourite Saturday morning cartoon shows, has led to no less than six murder-duels — all of which to the rest of the Claw’s disgust he has won almost effortlessly.
The most-loathed warrior in the claw, Zar Korloth the Ventrilokar, is also its most devout. Almost impossible to separate from his icon, Zar Korloth, is convinced that eventually his claw-mates will accept the true majesty of Chaos into their hearts. To this end, he often gifts his fellows with painstakingly created pamphlets, made out of cured human skin. To date, no-one has read a single line. The rest of the claw wonders what on Nostramo Syr Myrry did to get them saddled with such a Night Lord in name only (NILINO) and whether Zar Korloth’s geneseed was stolen from the XVIIth legion.
Vor Sorcax has become obsessed with making point-blank kills with his meltagun, to the point where it is becoming a problem. The amount of wargear he has left unsalvageable is also a sore point with his Claw-mates, though most — especially Syr Myrry — appreciate the number of times he has saved them from making a hasty ‘tactical withdrawal’ by instantly vapourising any enemy combatant that A) tries to initiate a duel and B) looks like they could win one.
Lavir Krouss, the Claw’s plasma gunner, adores his weapon with an unconditional love, despite its tendency to hideously burn his flesh off its bones. Now on his sixth bionic arm, Lavir is otherwise a reliable member of the Claw and a wicked shot. In contrast to Vor Sorcax, he takes great pains to maximise the amount of plunder that can be taken from the dead, making sure to vary where he places his shots when fighting against other Astartes.
Ravkos Udreth is a deeply skilled swordsman, able to make exquisite use of his chainsword despite its cumbersome construction. However, for reasons best left to a psychiatrist, all of Ravkos’ duels end the same way, with his chainsword buried in his opponent’s groin.
Myros Rudest is the youngest member of the Claw and is the only one of its number to routinely go into battle with a bolter. An extreme traditionalist, Myros is utterly convinced of the righteousness of their cause and worships the legacy of the Nighthaunter to an unusual degree. Others blame his hypno-indoctrination, noting that he was one of the first Night Lords to be created by Variel the Flayer — who may have relied on Talos’ instruction reels during the process.
In stark contrast to the other misfits that make up Myrrh’s Murderers, Kar Valeseth, the proud wielder of the Claw’s only Heavy Bolter, is dour and absolutely professional. He prides himself on only two criteria — his accuracy and his kill count.
